In contrast to the fleshy heat of the 70's and 80's erotic subjects Demanding and Reluctant Love, is relatively restrained and is a beautiful example of what Greaves described as his development towards linear clarity. When it was shown at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 1998 it attracted comparison with Matisse.
