Brief history as follows: Painted in 1959, sold at an exhibition in 1960 to Royston Lambert, then headmaster of the Devon school, Dartington Hall.

In 1961, used as the introduction to Sir Hugh Wheldon’s Monitor programme, on George Chapman. Lambert died c1983 and the painting was bought back by the son of the original gallery owner and has been in his possession ever since - some 33 years.
