Le Vautour
This is from the rare de tête edition of 36 copies only, printed on chine with additional remarques by Picasso.
Published by Martin Fabiani in Paris in 1942 and printed by Roger Lacourière.
Picasso's Buffon is one of the greatest bestiaries of the twentieth century. Eager to test out the new technique of sugar-lift aquatint Picasso threw himself into the project completing an etching a day. The spontaneity of the plates is attested by the freehand margins, the rapidly drawn line and the use of fingerprints for textural variety.
