This most recent offering of small oil panels with gold leaf bring together several of Bancroft's ongoing interests. They recall the work of early Italian Renaissance artists such as Duccio and Fra Angelico who have been a long term inspiration for him; coupled with his more recent fascination with the work of the great orthodox icon painter Andre Rublev, remembered in Tarkovsky's 1966 film of the same name.
