The Gymnast
Driftwood, mixed media assemblage.
Jo and I watched some of the 2020 Olympics. A Belgian gymnast was competing. We were mesmerised. How could a human being move so fluidly, defy gravity, display such strength, balance and suppleness? I thought of this bird's sinuous body and went into the studio where I found an elegant head of appropriate breadth. Elongated, slender legs provided poise. The gymnast won gold. I won inspiration.
