The Heart is True
Signed verso acrylic on carved brown oak.
This piece uses words from the Elizabethan part-song Fine Knacks for Ladies. The verse itself in anonymous, though clearly written by a poet of considerable skill; the music is by John Dowland and was published in 1601.
Destined for firewood, this piece echoes the phrase 'Though all my wares be Trash'. The wood is brown oak from Staunton Harold in Leicestershire, which had been cut to make a panel for a cabinet door, but was severely warped and had to be discarded.
