Original limited edition pochoir.
In June 1920 the publisher La Sirène of Paris issued a suite of prints by Raoul Dufy to accompany verses by the great symbolist poet Stéphane Mallarmé. The suite was entitled Madrigaux and comprised 25 lithographs coloured by the pochoir process, the latter involving the application of watercolour or gouache pigments to the prints through the medium of stencils. The prints, on vélin Lafuma de Voiron art paper, were pulled on a hand press by Aimé Jourde and coloured by Richard. The suite was limited to 1110 numbered copies. Madrigaux is widely considered to be amongst the finest livre d'artiste of the 20th century.
